Service Description

***** Pottery workshop in Malta. ***** Mark Ciavola, the creator and skilled artisan at Potters Thumb, will be visiting Malta to impart his expertise and enthusiasm for pottery. He will guide participants in mastering the art of throwing pottery on the wheel and provide them with the essential skills to begin their own creative journey. The goal of this class is to cover all aspects of working on a potter's wheel, with plenty of time for individual work to make sure that students fully understand the skills and have plenty of chances to practice. Mark will showcase the necessary techniques and delve into the fascinating realm of pottery. Throughout the session, we will address the following topics: - Acquiring knowledge regarding the characteristics and attributes of the material itself - clay - Preparing the clay for the pottery wheel - Positioning the clay in the centre of the wheel head; - Forming the clay into a cup or vessel; - Removing the pot from the wheel head. - Pot trimming - Bowl building techniques - Jug making process - Practice time - Creating handles, using slips, and making marks - Applying glaze and adorning the pots made in the workshop All necessary tools will be provided. Enough time is given throughout the session to try out the techniques for making your own pots and get some hands-on experience with clay. The objective of the courses is to provide students with the necessary skills for proficiently using a potter's wheel. Everything you produce in the session is yours to keep. The workshop will span over 3 sessions x 2 hrs 1 session x 1 hr Number of students attending each session 3 students Essential items to bring: - An apron or overall to safeguard your clothing from excessive mess - A large towel - A small sketchbook or notebook - Patience ***You should know that having long nails can make it harder to make something on the wheel. This could mean having to cancel the session without getting a refund; please be aware of this. Payments made through Revolut are also welcome.
